Abstract:
Lately, excellent schools increase and are considered as a social phenomenon. In Islamic societies,
there are also Muslim elite school term. This school has a characteristic in teaching science and
technology and at the same time emphasising on religiosity and piety through the Islamic subject
matter. Among the problems discussed in this paper, are: 1) How is the background of the
establishment of the Muslim elite schools in Pontianak (SD Muhammadiyah 2, SD Islam Al-Azhar
21, SDIT Al-Mumtaz)? 2) How is the management of the Muslim elite schools in Pontianak (SD
Muhammadiyah 2, SD Islam Al-Azhar 21, SDIT Al-Mumtaz)? The method used in this research, is
qualitative descriptive method. Descriptive research method is a research using observation,
interviews or questionnaires regarding the present situation. Descriptive method used for this study
seeks describe the phemonenon of elit Muslim schools in Pontianak. This national phenomenon
also appears in Pontianak city. The development of Muhammadiyah Elementary School 2, Al Azhar 21 Islamic Elementary School, and SDIT (Islamic Integrated Elementary School) Al mumtaz can represent this phenomenon. These three education institutions have made great
contributions to the emerging Muslim scholars generation in Pontianak. All three have been
acknowledged its existence by the community and were able to give a foundation for the existence
of professional, excellent, and competitive Islamic educational institutions.
