dc.description.abstract This paper investigates and analyzes the spatial organization of Malay Palaces on Kalimantan Barat with Keraton Kadriyah in Pontianak City as its case study. The study focused on the elements forming exterior and interior of the palace. In an effort to identify and compile its phenomenon, the research conducted by using the content analysis method of data image. Findings indicates that: 1) the location of the palace located on the riverfront as a location that considered strategic; 2) orientation and placement of the buildings based on elements of religious belief influence; 3) building mass and site markers arranged in layers that formed a linear pattern and symmetrical axis; 4) there are three elements that dominate as the site's marker, which are: royal flagpole that similar to the ship's flagpole, cannons, and the great mosque, with position in front of the building or the site; 5) the spaces in the building clustered into three parts, namely front, middle and rear, with a symmetrical room placement on the left and right based on a grid pattern. en_GB
